Arnold Hammond, 95, of Sioux City died Friday, May 23, 2008, from a fall off his home and later complications.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Morningside, with the Rev. Craig Bock officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery near Le Mars, Iowa. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 26, 2008 with the family present 7 to 8 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.
Arnold was born July 9, 1912, at his home in Merrill, Iowa. He graduated at age 16 from Merrill High School and from Western Union in Le Mars at 20. He later obtained his master's degree in mathematics from Vermillion, S.D. He taught high school math, coached athletics and served as high school principal for 40 years in northern Iowa. His career included 20 years in Alta, Iowa, and concluded in 1975 in Sergeant Bluff.
He married Hildegarde Burnjes on June 19, 1947, in Le Mars.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Curtis of Las Vegas, Nev.; a daughter, Vanessa and her husband, Gilbert Gibbs of Sparta, N.J.; and their children, Gilbert and Christine.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Earl.
