Violet Hazel Hamilton

SIOUX CITY -- Violet Hazel Hamilton, 92, of Sioux City passed away Friday, Sept. 25, 2009, at Casa de Paz.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, October 1, 2009 in Graceland Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Merrill Muller officiating. Visitation will be 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.

Violet was born Feb. 5, 1917, in Dakota City, to Grant and Hazel (Powell) Holbrook Sr.

She was married to Mervin A. McQuillen in 1935. From that union, two children were born, Mervin and Carol. She later married Marshall E. Hamilton of Cushing, Iowa, on Aug. 21, 1943, in South Sioux City. She had worked at Cudahy Packing and in the kitchen at Woodrow Wilson High School for the lunch program. Marshall passed away Feb. 9, 2001. She lived the last 10 years at Casa de Paz Care Center.

She enjoyed working in her garden, flowers, walking and especially her chocolate candy.

She is survived by her son, Mervin E. McQuillen and his wife, JoAnn of Sioux City; a daughter, Carol A. and her husband, Dick Boland of Sioux City; a sister, Marge Stamoulis; eight grandchildren, Terry J. Gray, Robert McQuillen, Douglas McQuillen, Patrick McQuillen, Mindy Whitead, Sandy Hill, Susan Ates and Randy Whitead; 19 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Blanch Claassen and Mary Jane Saltsgiver; a brother, Grant Holbrook Jr.; and three great-grandchildren, Aaron Virgil Gray, William Marshall McQuillen and Jason Whitead.
