Donald Halweg, 75, of Sioux City, passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2007 at Westwood Nursing and Rehab. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2007 from 3-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. A prayer service will begin at 7:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 26, 2007 at St. John Lutheran Church with Reverend Greg Hanneman officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Donald was born on March 13, 1931 in Merrill, Iowa to Carl C. and Esther Halweg. He attended school in Le Mars, Iowa and graduated from Central High School in Sioux City. Donald enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. after high school. On June 25, 1953, he married Janice L. Luebben at St. John Lutheran Church in Le Mars, Iowa. Donald was a co-owner of H & H Auto Salvage with his father Carl C. Halweg. He was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Sioux City.
Survivors include his children, Terry Halweg of Sioux City, Louise (LouAnn) Sutton and her husband Charles of Bridgeton, MO: Randy Halweg and Karla Herman of Sioux City, Lynn Bergeson of Payson, AZ: Russell Halweg and Mary Pendleton of Lakewood, CO: and Patrick Halweg and Tere Denman of Mesa, AZ. Grandchildren are Heidi Sutton, Heather Halweg, Christopher Bergeson, Aubrey Halweg, Amy Bergeson, and Dylan Halweg. Donald was also survived by a sister Mavis Colunga of Moorpark, CA. along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Janice, daughter, DeAnna and his parents, Carl and Esther Halweg.
Serving, as casket bearers will be Randy, Russ and Pat Halweg, Charlie Sutton, Tim Herbst, and Aaron Shearn.
