Geraldine "Jerry" Haley, 91, of Sioux City died Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at her residence following a brief illness with cancer of the lung.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Merlin Schrad officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with a rosary at 5 p.m., the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Jerry was born Dec. 1, 1916, in Le Sueur, Minn., the daughter of Leo and Teresa (Merry) Marx. She had lived in Le Sueur, Minn., Brownsville, Texas and Le Mars, Iowa, before moving to Sioux City in 1931. She graduated from East High School in 1934.
She married James Haley on Oct. 26, 1942, in Sioux City. He died Oct. 3, 1967, in Sioux City. She had worked for Dr. Bower's office, Dr. Davey's office, then for Northwestern Bell Telephone (now Qwest) from 1971 to 1983.
She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
Survivors include seven children, Joe Haley of Phoenix, Ariz., Mike Haley of Ankeny, Iowa, Julia Hayworth of Omaha, Tom Haley and his wife, Nancy of Omaha, Norah and her husband, Mike Mitchell of Minnetonka, Minn., Steve Haley and his wife, Barb of Sioux City and Matt Haley and his wife, Cindy of Alpharetta, Ga.; 29 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; a son, Chris Haley; her parents, Leo and Teresa Marx; four grandchildren, Jimmy, David, Patrick and Joey; a great-grandson, Brody; three brothers, Bill, Jack and Dick Marx; and a sister, "Pat" Steele.
Pallbearers will be Aaron and Mike Haley, Derek Berg, Jim Haley, Mike Mitchell and Eric Haley.
