Harriet A. Habben

SIOUX CITY -- Harriet A. Habben, 89, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab Center.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, August 27, 2009 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Anthony Allard officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Harriet was born March 16, 1920, in Balaton, Minn., to Rolland and Ruby (McLaird) Habben. She grew up in Balaton.

She married Bernard Habben on March 30, 1938, in Rock Rapids, Iowa. They moved to Melvin, Iowa. In 1941, the couple moved to Sioux City. She was a housekeeper at the May Fair Hotel and St. Vincent's Hospital.

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid. She was a great, loving mother, who loved to shop and play bingo.

She is survived by seven sons, Dennis Habben of South Sioux City, Gary Habben and his wife, Glenda of Le Mars, Iowa, Vernon Habben and his wife, Eleanor of Lancaster, Calif., Douglas Habben and his wife, Kathy of Reno, Nev., Harlan Habben and his wife, Brenda of Sioux City, Greg Habben and his wife, Linda of Sioux City and Steven Habben of Hemet, Calif.; a daughter, Phyllis Clark of South Sioux City; a brother, Clifford Habben of Russell, Minn.; five sisters, Gertrude Sudlow and her husband, Harm Heidebrink of Montevideo, Minn., Jean Tvedt of Moorhead, Minn., Ruby Mathwig of Climbing Hill, Iowa, Hazel Saienga of Lake Benton, Minn., and Lois and her husband, Don Levoie of Inver Grove Heights, Minn.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Isaac Habben, Mike Habben, Eric Habben, Matthew Habben, Kenneth Clark and Alan Clark. Honorary pallbearer will be D.J. Habben.
