SIOUX CITY -- Larry R. Gruis, 66, of Sioux City passed away peacefully at his residence on Tuesday, June 8, 2010.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 12, 2010 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Roger Madden officiating.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Lakeview Cemetery, Lake Andes, S.D. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, with family present beginning at 6 p.m., at the funeral home.
Larry was born Dec. 12, 1943, in Lake Andes, S.D., to Herman and Elma (Gaisbaur) Gruis. He received his education in Ravinia, S.D.
He was united in marriage to Judy Raabe on July 5, 1964, in Wagner, S.D. Larry worked at Haakinson-Beatty Steel in Sioux City between the years of 1963 and 1988, when he began his career with Jolly Time Popcorn. Due to his health, Larry was forced to take early retirement from the manager position that he held at Jolly Time.
He enjoyed building and restoring custom cars, attending auto races, especially NASCAR, but found his true joy in life through his granddaughters, Ashley and Haley.
Larry is survived by his son, Marty Gruis and his wife, Cindy of Sioux City; daughter, Jessica Russell and her husband, Isaac of Sioux Falls, S.D.; brother, Elgin Gruis of Jackson, Neb.; granddaughters, Ashley and Haley Gruis of Sioux City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Calvin, Mike, and Harold; and two sisters, Joan and Gloria.
