Shirley M. Gruenzner, 70, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2007, surrounded by her family, at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha after a courageous year long battle with ovarian cancer.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Merlin Schrad officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Shirley was born June 22, 1937, in Armour, S.D., the daughter of Cornelius and Wilhelmina (Gregor) Klein. She was raised in Armour and graduated from Armour High School.
She married Frank D. Gruenzner on Jan. 14, 1956, in Armour. After their marriage, the couple lived in Windom and Pipestone, Minn. In 1958, they moved to Sioux Falls, where they resided until their move to Sioux City in 1972. She worked with her husband in his accounting and tax service business for many years. Most recently, she was employed with Chico's Women's Clothing Store.
She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, the Serra Catholic Club and served on the board of Catholic Charities. She was a member of the Quota International of Sioux City and a past member of the P.E.O. She was an avid bridge player with a special interest in duplicate bridge.
Survivors include her husband, Frank of Sioux City; a son Randy Gruenzner of Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Deb and Rick Homan of Omaha; three grandsons, Travis, Jared and Corey Homan of Omaha; and two sisters and their husbands, Janice and Ron Putzier of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Barb and Doug Williams of Fall City, Neb.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Pallbearers will be Tom Kimmel, Cliff Wiese, Jim Calvert, Travis Homan, Jared Homan and Corey Homan.
