Gordon H. Green, 88, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2006, at Casa de Paz Nursing and Rehab following a brief illness.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. today at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Kenneth Schmidt officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Sunset Memorial Cemetery, Minneapolis. Gordon was born Aug. 14, 1918, in Motley, Minn., the son of Charles Ernest and Myrtle (Dolly) Green. He graduated from Motley High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Company F, 43rd Engineers, which received the Presidential Citation. He faithfully attended the reunion of his company.
He married Eleanor O. Zimmerman on July 27, 1946, in Walker, Minn. She passed away Oct. 12, 2003, in Sioux City. He had been a resident of Sioux City since 1956.
He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed reading and woodworking. He made wonderful fried chicken.
Survivors include two sons, Charles William (Lucinda) Green of Boise, Idaho, and Norman (Mary) Green of Los Angeles, Calif.; a daughter, Carol Michelle (Leck) Arnold of Plano, Texas; a nephew, Frank Green; and a niece, Trudie Ellsworth.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and five brothers and sisters.
