Joanne L. Goodwin

SIDNEY, Neb. -- Joanne Lenore Goodwin, 82, of Sidney passed away quietly and peacefully in the loving company of her family Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008, in Sioux City.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, November 15, 2008 at First United Methodist Church in Sidney. Local arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Joanne was born Dec. 30, 1925, in Minneapolis, the daughter of William P. and Marie L. (Castner) Ackerman. In her earlier years, she was Sidney High School class valedictorian. She graduated from the University of Nebraska.

She married Francis leBaron Goodwin on June 20, 1948, in Sidney. He died Oct. 8, 2004. She was a renaissance homemaker. Beyond raising her three children, she was a central figure in the lives of her parents and extended family and friends. She also was an important partner in the family business.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Sidney and was very active in the church. She followed the tradition of her father as an accomplished pianist and loved playing and singing with her music loving family.

She is survived by three children, Francis Lee Goodwin and his wife, Karen, of Sioux City, Gayle Maxon-Edgerton and her husband, Phil, of Sante Fe, N.M., and Robert Goodwin and his wife, Diana, of Sidney; her grandchildren, Christopher Goodwin, Jamie Andersen, Matthew Girard Maxon, Ashley Goodwin and Zachariah Goodwin; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, William and Robert Ackerman; and a sister, Joline.
