Ruth was born in Berlin, Germany, on Jan. 21, 1933, to Max and Isabella (Bernhardt) Teitz. In the spring of 1939, at the age of 6, her parents sent her and her older sister, Hannah to England to keep them safe from Nazi persecution. In 1943, her parents perished in the Auschwitz Concentration Camp. She lived in an orphanage in England for seven years until the end of World War II. She was brought to the U.S. by her father's aunts and uncles in 1946. She graduated from high school in Cincinnati, Ohio.

She married Samuel Goldstein on March 22, 1953, in Cincinnati, and they were happily married for 43 years. He died Oct. 3, 1996, in Sioux City. Ruth and Sam moved to Sioux City in 1959, when he started Sam's Kosher Meat Market and Delicatessen. Ruth enjoyed serving the customers at the store for many years.

She was a member of Congregation Beth Shalom. Over the years, she was a member of the Sisterhood, Hadassah, Women's League and P.T.A. Ruth's greatest joys in life were being married to Sam and raising her five children. She was very proud of her six beautiful grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking and baking, especially in preparation of Shabbos and the Jewish holidays.

Survivors include five children, Leonard Goldstein of Sioux City, Sally Kaitz and her husband, Nathan of Framingham, Mass., David Goldstein and his wife, Simone of Oviedo, Fla., Jack Goldstein of Vista, Calif., and Miriam Hootstein and her husband, Alan of Englewood, Colo.; a sister, Hannah Kadetz and her husband, Paul of Cincinnati, Ohio; and six grandchildren, Elena and Sam Goldstein, Robert and Josh Kaitz, Emily and Molly Hootstein.

Memorials may be made in Ruth's name to Congregation Beth Shalom.
