SIOUX CITY -- Brian Lee Goetz, 54, of Sioux City died Friday, April 16, 2010, at his residence following a brief illness with cancer.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with his uncle and life mentor, the Rev. John Heekin and the Revs. Merlin Schrad and Don Slaven concelebrating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Brian was born May 18, 1955, in Omaha, Neb., to Margaret "Mickey" (Sinnott) and Paul Goetz. He graduated from Blessed Sacrament Grade School and Heelan High School in 1973. He then attended Briar Cliff College.
Brian worked in the family business, Perkins Office Solutions, starting in 1976 and had owned the company for the last 15 years. He enjoyed having the time to work with his mother in the family business.
He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He had served as president of the Iowa Nebraska Office Machine Dealers Association and served for two years on the national board for the Office Machine Dealers Association. Brian served on the YMCA Board for eight years, was a member of the Sioux City Airport Board of Trustees and served on the board of the Sioux City Boys Club.
At the age of 19, Brian and some of his close friends hitchhiked across the United States. He always said it was the best year of his life. Brian enjoyed biking and was an avid supporter of bike trails. He was a veteran of many RAGBRAI rides across Iowa. He enjoyed piloting his own plane, racquetball, snow skiing, riding his Harley to Sturgis and traveling, especially to Europe and the Caribbean. He was a fan and supporter of Rockestra and would travel great distances to concerts and family reunions at the Rolling Stones concerts.
Survivors include his mother, Margaret "Mickey" Goetz of Sioux City; his father, Paul Goetz of Sioux City and Texas; nine brothers and sisters, Brad Goetz and his wife, Pam of Springfield, Ill., Brent Goetz of Spencer, Iowa, Paula Goetz of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Kevin Goetz and his wife, Sheila of Thornton, Colo., Kent Goetz of Santa Clara, Calif., Theresa Goertz and her husband, Tim of Hornick, Iowa, Keith Goetz of Sioux City, Kert Goetz of Lincoln, Neb., and Kenneth Goetz of Las Vegas, Nev.; eight nieces and nephews, Jason and Jillian Goetz, Kyle Goetz, Brittney and Brandon Goertz, Katelin and Kylie Goetz and James Ferguson; and two great-nephews, Bradley and Tyler Wayman.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Marguerite (Haven) and Thomas Vincent Sinnott and Elida (Guitterez) and Paul Goetz.
Pallbearers will be Wade Troth, Bill Carney, Marty Kukuk, Jeff Reinders, Timm Funk, Chuck Wright, Ron Colling and Keith Hawkins.
Memorials may be made in his name to Masses at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Rockestra, Boys Club or Hospice of Siouxland.
