Nellie P. Gilson, 97, of Sioux City passed away Monday, Sept. 3, 2007, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Roger Madden officiating. Burial will be in Lyons Cemetery, Lyons, Neb. Nell was born March 15, 1910, in Decatur, Neb., the daughter of Blaine and Estella (Richards) Mayberry. She attended high school in Lyons, Neb.
She married Charles Richards on July 28, 1927. They had twin boys in 1928. Charles was struck and killed by a car while holding hands and walking with Nell across the street in 1945. She later married Oscar Gilson and he passed away in 1966. In 1967, she met Elmer Weaver, with whom she stayed with until his death in 2001.
She worked as a seamstress for Aalfs Manufacturing Company and Hovlands Manufacturing Company for a total of about 30 years before she retired.
She loved to play cards and crochet.
Survivors include a stepdaughter and her husband, Janice and Rob Tudehope of Sioux City; two stepsons, Jay Weaver of Sioux City and Mike and his wife, Val of Merrill, Iowa; and a grandson, Jacob Tudehope.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sons, Gerald and Donald Richards; her husband, Charles Richards, Oscar Gilson and Elmer Weaver; a brother, Byron Mayberry; and a sister, Hazel Griffin.
