HINTON. Iowa -- Susan R. Geddes, 60, of rural Hinton passed away on Monday, May 10, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital, surrounded by family, following a year long battle against lymphoma.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Wesley United Methodist Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Dan Anderson as officiant. Burial will be in Rademacher Cemetery in rural Hinton. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present at 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Wesley United Methodist Church. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel has assisted the family with arrangements.

Susan was born on May 28, 1949, in Sioux City, to Duane and Lavonne (Merchant) Dybdahl. She was raised in Sioux City, attended Leeds High School and graduated with the class of 1967. Immediately following graduation, Susan began her career with First Federal Savings and Loan.

She married Steve Geddes on Sept. 6, 1969, in Sioux City. To this union two children were born. Susan worked her way through several positions at the bank, retiring in 2002 as vice-president of operations after 33 years of service. She then worked for a couple years as a teacher's aide at Hinton High School, and finished her working career as assistant manager of the Northside Dairy Queen in Sioux City.

Susan was an avid quilter, an amazing seamstress, and thoroughly enjoyed people. She found her greatest joy in reading to, putting together puzzles with, and simply spending time around her grandchildren. She was very active in the Wesley United Methodist Church, holding various church-affiliated positions including being in charge of the baby quilts in the Neo-natal Department at St. Luke's, served on the Mary Treglia House Board, and was active in 4-H.

Susan is survived by her husband, Steve Geddes; son, Scott Geddes and his wife, Tara; a daughter, Sarah Geddes, all of rural Hinton; sisters, Carol Johannsen and her husband, Dennis and Sandy Ohl, all of Sioux City; and grandchildren, Delaney, Brooklyn, Addyson, and Chloey.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents.
