Daniel C. Galvin, 84, a longtime Sioux City attorney died Saturday, July 18, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with Monsignor Roger Augustine officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, with military rites. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Mr. Galvin was born Oct. 10, 1924, in Cushing, Iowa, the son of Richard and Zeta (Patten) Galvin. He graduated from Cushing High School and Creighton Law School. He served in the U.S. Navy.

He was united in marriage to Dolores McGrath on Dec. 26, 1949, in Omaha. As an attorney, he associated with Don O'Brien, the late John T. O'Brien and most recently with John Moeller. He also served as an assistant county attorney for three years prior to his self-employed law practice.

He was a musician and vocalist. He played the drums and sang in the band the Dixie Daddy's. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He was a member of the local and state Bar Association and a lifelong Democrat.

Survivors include his devoted wife, Dolores (McGrath) Galvin; two sons and their wives, John and MaryAnn Galvin of Merrill, Iowa, and Thomas and Samantha Galvin of Hooker, Okla.; two daughters, Sheila and her husband, Michael Roche of Arlington Heights, Ill., and Mary Cougill of Sergeant Bluff; grandchildren, Brian Galvin, Michelle Banks, Samantha Galvin, Shawn Galvin, Katie Galvin, Thomas Calvin, Guner Galvin, Madison Galvin, Molly Roche, Joshua Johnson, Jenna Cougill and Mindee Banys; and two sisters, Zita Galvin of Sioux City and Cecelia and her husband, Jerry McCarty of Eden Prairie, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John R. Galvin; and two sisters, Mary Ellen Dowd and Dorothy Getty.

Pallbearers will be Michael Roche, Joshua Johnson, Brian Galvin, Richard Galvin, Dennis Dowd and Michael Getty. Honorary pallbearers will be Joseph Cosgrove, Donald O'Brien, Shawn Galvin and Thomas Joseph Galvin.
