Robert J. Galles

July 30, 1940 — February 5, 2011

Robert J. Galles, 70, of Sioux City, passed away Saturday, February 5, 2011 at a local hospital. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Reverend Richard A. Sitzmann officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service time. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in LeMars, Iowa.

Robert was born the son of John E. and Edith M. (Hoffman) Galles on July 30, 1940 in LeMars, Iowa. He graduated from LeMars Community High School in 1959 and later graduated from Westmar College with a degree in Science. He went on to become a registered respiratory therapist. Robert married Marie Ann Tonner on May 26, 1972 in Sioux City.

He was a member of the American Legion in LeMars, Iowa during his service time where he marched with the Colonels in the late 1960s. He was inducted into the Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Jags in 2005. The Jags were formed in 1959 and their hit record was titled, Hey Little Girl.

Robert enjoyed golfing, fishing, cooking, and playing guitar. He lived for his family, spending lot of time with his granddaughter, Jade. He had a great love of all animals.

Robert honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1963 to 1965.

Robert is survived by his wife, Marie Ann of Sioux City; one son, Robert Galles II of Sioux City; two daughters, Gretchen Galles of LeMars, Iowa, and Michelle Galles of Newport Beach, California; one sister, Julie (Ron) Kunkel of Moville, Iowa; and one granddaughter, Jade Galles of Sioux City. He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Siouxland Humane Society.
