Dolores Funke passed away Monday, November 9, 2009 in Sioux City at Northern Hills Assisted Living at the age of 96.
Visitation will be at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel from 4pm to 8 pm, Sunday Nov. 15th, rosary by the Catholic Daughters at 4 pm, family present 6-8 pm, with vigil held at 7 pm. The funeral will be at St. Michaels Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 16th followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are by Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Dolores was born in Sioux City, IA in 1913 to Carl and Fern Dierking. She graduated from East High School in 1932. She married George Funke in 1933. Dolores is survived by six children and their spouses, Carlene and Marty Tarnoff, Mary and Edward Kaminski, Don and Caryl Funke, John Funke, Nancy Funke, Ann and Russ Kock and Richard and DarylLynn Funke. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Dolores was preceded in death by her husband, George Funke in 1948, her son, Jim Funke, her son-in-law, Al Porreco and grandson Jeff Porreco.
Dolores lived a full life that is described well by the following quote. Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "wow... what a ride!"
Dolores was an avid card player especially loving the games of cribbage and bridge. She was a volunteer at the Bargain Center. She was active in the Democrat Party and Catholic Daughters.
