John F. "Bud" Fruechtenicht, 82, of Dakota Dunes died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab Facility.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Teresa of Calcutta in Dakota Dunes, with the Rev. Anthony Opem officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Sioux City. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
John was born Jan. 18, 1925, in Sioux City, the son of Raymond and Inga (Nelson) Fruechtenicht. He graduated from Central High School and attended Briar Cliff University.
He married Donna Mae Murtha on Jan. 13, 1949, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sioux City. He worked for a while as a real estate broker, owning his own business for several years. He also worked as a machinist for several years.
He was a master gardener. He loved the game of golf and was very proud that he achieved three holes-in-one. He enjoyed watching trains and would drive by them daily. He was a member of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta and the Senior Center.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Fruechtenicht of Dakota Dunes; a son, Sam (Carol) Fruechtenicht of Lawton, Iowa; and three grandchildren, Beau of Omaha and Clint and Sabrina, both of Lincoln, Neb.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
