SIOUX CITY -- Joy L. Frields Siemer, 84, of Sioux City passed away peacefully Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital under the care of her daughters, grandchildren and Hospice of Siouxland.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Don Craig officiating. Private graveside services will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. There will be a luncheon held at Central Baptist Church, 4001 Indian Hills Drive, Sioux City. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the funeral home. Joy was born Nov. 28, 1924, in Sioux City, to Leverne "Lee" and Jesse (Russell) Abker. She grew up on West 14th Street and graduated from Central High School with the class of 1942.

She married Elbert "Ted" Frields on Sept. 27, 1945, in Omaha. She enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her three daughters, Diana, Deb and Donna. She was employed with Mutual of Omaha in her younger years to which she returned after her children were grown. She also worked for the Sioux City Chamber of Commerce and Soo Bee Honey as an administrative assistant.

She loved decorating the house and could always be found creating with a paintbrush in her hand. She enjoyed playing bridge and player her guitar with her dear friend, Corrine Jones. She also enjoyed planting flowers, teaching her grandchildren how to cook, gardening and playing various sports like tennis, bowling, golf and participating in the Soo Bowman Archery Club. Summer activities often included family camping and fishing trips.

She was a supporter of Friendship House, a member of First Baptist Church in her younger years, when she sang in the choir and was the church secretary. She attended Mayflower Congregational Church in her later years. She spent her final years at Holy Spirit Retirement Home under the loving care of the first floor staff. She leaves her keen sense of humor and her courage as her legacy to her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters, Diana and Mike Stubenrauch of Barrington, Ill., Debbie and James Newell of Omaha and Donna Buckley of Sioux City; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Zianna Gray of Alexandria, Va.; a son-in-law, Richard Fisher of Bloomingdale, Ill.; and former husband, Ted Frields of Sioux City.

Pallbearers will be James Newell, Taylor Hood, Justin Hood, Tyson Inthisane, John Leigh, Rob Aspleaf and James Woodford.
