David J. Fox, 53, of Sioux City died unexpectedly Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Abu Bekr Shrine Temple, 820 Nebraska St., with the Rev. Merrill Muller officiating. Visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present 4 to 8 p.m. and a Masonic service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. David was born March 9, 1954, in Concordia, Kan., to James and Lucille (Doyen) Fox. He grew up in the Holly Springs, Iowa, area and graduated from Westwood High School in 1973. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam conflict. He served from June 1973 to September 1977, and was a military law enforcement officer.
He was a correctional officer for the state of Missouri from October 1977 to January 1981. He joined the Woodbury County Sheriff's Department in February 1981, and had been there for more than 25 years. He worked as a correctional officer in the civil and warrants division, the investigations division, patrol division, K-9 division and undercover narcotics. He served on the Iowa Department of Public Safety LEIN Executive Board, the Tri-State Drug Task Force Operations Board and the Child Protection and Advocacy Center Advisory Board.
He was past master of the Tyrian Masonic Lodge 508 A.F. & A.M. and a member of the Abu Bekr Shrine Temple. David was also an Eagle Scout.
Survivors include a son, James Fox of Sergeant Bluff; two daughters, Nicole Molden and her husband, Christopher of Norfolk, Neb., and Kristi Fox of Sergeant Bluff; a brother, Mike Fox of Piedmont, S.D.; two sisters, Debbie Sulsberger and her husband, Todd of Hornick, Iowa, and Sonya Hellmann and her significant other, Manny Balingit of Santa Clarita, Calif.; and seven grandchildren, Aliah, Alyssa, Alex, Michael, Chase, Kaylee and Courtney.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Cherish.
