Maurice J. Foley, 73, of Sioux City died Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at the Hospice Wing of Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab Center, with his family by his side. He passed away after a courageous battle with cancer.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Craig Collison officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Maurice was born Aug. 4, 1933, in Springfield, S.D., the son of James and Julietta (Hahn) Foley. He grew up in Springfield, where he attended school and worked at various part-time jobs. He later served in the U.S. Air Force from May 1953 to May 1957.

He married Doris E. Fowles on Aug. 19, 1958, at Cathedral of the Epiphany in Sioux City. She preceded him in death on Aug. 22, 1994. The couple made their home in Sioux City. He worked at the Sioux City Stockyards for 35 years until he retired in 1994 due to health reasons.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. His best memories were the times he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Dave and Cindy Foley of Le Mars, Iowa; two daughters and their husbands, Debbie and Larry Watterson and Deanna and Steve Mayo, all of Sioux City; four brothers and their wives, Ken and Audrey Foley of Papillion, Neb., Robert and Hazel Foley of Long Beach, Calif., Donald and Joan Foley of New Castle, Calif., and Ronald and Patricia Foley of Conroe, Texas; eight grandchildren, Dominick, Alex and Daytona Foley, Shayla and Kelsey Watterson and Corey, Zachary and Brady Mayo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife.

Pallbearers will be Dave Walker, Don Williams, Dennis Warren, Gerald Reeg, Richard Hartman and Russ Hodges.
