Helen Ann Flammang, 83, of Sioux City died Monday, Aug. 6, 2007, at the Bickford Cottage.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Michael's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gary Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.mm. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.
Helen was born Aug. 24, 1923, in Danbury, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Margaret (Reimer) Erlemeier.
She married Benedict "Dick" Flammang on Sept. 18, 1951, in Danbury. Dick passed away March 8, 1999, in St. Francis, Kan. She ran her own day-care for more than 30 years.
She enjoyed traveling with family and friends to many places including Oregon and Okoboji. She loved to open her door to family and friends and made many fabulous meals for them. She also enjoyed gardening. She especially loved family gatherings and having her grandchildren for sleep overs and baking awesome melt-in-your-mouth cookies. She always had a sparkle in her eye, a smile on her face and deep love in her heart.
She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and was a member and past president of the Altar Society. She was a member and past vice president of the National Tole and Decorative Painting Association. She always looked forward to Wednesday nights with her friends to paint, make memory boxes and quilts.
Survivors include a son, Don (Donelle) Flammang of Dallas, Ore.; three daughters, Deb Kappes (fiance, Ray Coover) of Sioux City, Darla (Scott) Flynn of Sioux City and Denise Gill of Sioux City; 11 grandchildren, Jen Evans, Ben and D.J. Flammang, Casey Kappes, Melissa, Nicole, Brianna and Mackenzie Flynn and Keely, Keith and Konnor Gill; and a great-grandson, Karson Damrau.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Lioba Wimmer and Jean Ernst; a brother, Ray Erlemeier; and infant son, Keith; and a great-granddaughter, Katelyn Evans.
