Henry W. Fachman

November 10, 1920 — June 2, 2008

Henry W. Fachman, 87, of Sioux City died Monday, June 2, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 6, 2008 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Bruch officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.

Henry was born Nov. 10, 1920, in Sioux City, the son of George W. and Amelia S. (Mattson) Fachman. He graduated from Central High School and earned his architecture degree from Iowa State University. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army.

He was married to Mary M. Cook on Sept. 1, 1949, in Ames, Iowa. He was a architect for William Beuttler Company.

He enjoyed digging and planting in his garden, building homes, writing in his journal, planning trips, taking walks, keeping up with the news and speaking his political mind by voting. He will be remembered as a good neighbor and family man. He was a longtime member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, where he was very active with the communion group, being a lay person for the church and helping out wherever he could.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Fachman of Sioux City; four children, Eric (Mary) Fachman of Sioux City, Sylvia (Conrad) Castle of Sioux City, Lance (Dolores) Fachman of El Paso, Texas, and Valerie (Scott) Baker of San Francisco, Calif.; 12 grandchildren, Angela, Christine, Jason, Walker, Paul, Katrina, Taylor, Belinda, Ella, Steven, Arnold and Jaime; several great-grandchildren; and a sister, Julia (Ray) Tait of Mena, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
