Dorothy C. Faber

Dorothy C. Faber, 93, of Sioux City, passed away on Sunday, September 30, 2007, at a local hospital. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 4, 2007, with The Very Reverend Paul Louis Arts officiating, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Dorothy was born on June 4, 1914 in Olivia, Minnesota to Patrick and Katherine (Welsh) Gleason. The family moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa where she attended Immaculate Conception School. After graduation she attended the University of Iowa and graduated with a B.S. degree in Pharmacy.

Dorothy married Mathew Faber on February 20, 1939 in Ottumwa, Iowa. The couple lived in Ottumwa and then moved to Iowa City then on to Shenandoah, Iowa. When her husband was inducted into the Army during W.W.II, she moved to Cedar Rapids where she was employed as a chemist with Barlow Laboratories. After the war, she and her husband moved to Sioux City. She worked at the Woodbury County Clinic, several different drug stores on a part time basis. She then became a staff pharmacist at St. Joseph Hospital.

Since her retirement, Dorothy has enjoyed volunteering at the Bargain Center for 23 years. She was a member of the Cathedral of The Epiphany Catholic Church and also a member of the Catholic Womens League. A former member of the National and Iowa Pharmaceutical Societies and also American Business Womens Association, Sioux City and Dakota Dunes Book Club. Dorothy was also a former member of the Dakota Dunes Country Club.

Dorothy is survived by a sister-in-law Beatrice Faber of Des Moines, Iowa, a nephew Michael Faber also of Des Moines, Iowa and a niece Ann McDonald of Princeton, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Mathew on January 13, 2005.
