Thomas Everingham

July 8, 1936 — March 20, 2008

Thomas Everingham, 71, of Sioux City, passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center. Visitation will begin on Thursday, March 27, 2008, from 3-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. A vigil service will begin at 7:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 28, 2008, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Father Merlin Schrad celebrating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Thomas was born on July 8, 1936, in Sioux City, Iowa the son of James H. and Phyllis I. (Norton) Everingham. He grew up in Sioux City and attended Cathedral grade school and graduated from Heelan High School in 1954.

Thomas was drafted into the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany from 1958 1960. He was later honorably discharge in 1964. Upon his return to Sioux City, he enrolled at Iowa Western Tech from 1966 until 1968 where he studied electronics.

On July 29, 1967, he married Elizabeth (Betty) Noonan at Blessed Sacrament Church.

The couple purchased Tweets Embassy in 1968 and continued to operate the tavern until they closed it in 1979. During that time Tom and Betty bought some land in the Westfield area and built their new home.

They were foster parents to children in the area. He also enjoyed cooking meals for friends and family. Tom loved having dinner parties. He was a dedicated fisherman with his son and friends and also enjoyed upland game bird hunting. In later years he appreciated viewing and catching wild life on film.. He was an avid sports fan. Tom was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church while they lived in Sioux City and later St. Patricks Catholic Church in Akron.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Elizabeth (Betty) Everingham of Sioux City, a son, Tom Everingham and his wife Christy and their children, Hannah and Michaela of Westfield, IA. Brothers and sisters, Patricia Everingham of Sioux City, James Everingham of Beverly Hills, FL, Sandra Casey and her husband Ray of South Sioux City, NE, and Mary Jo Everingham of Lakeview Terrace, CA. Brothers and sisters-in-law, Dr. Michael Noonan and his wife Marlys of Portland, OR, Monica Kruse and her husband Tom of Carroll, IA, Dr. Joan Liddell of Denver, CO, Dr. Theresa Liddell and her husband Dave of Juno Beach, FL, and sister-in-law, Karmen (Noonan) Schoelerman of Hartley, IA.

Preceding him in death were his parents, in-laws, Emmet and Veronica Noonan and brother-in-law, John T. Noonan.
