Arthur L. Erickson, 74, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital after battling a 10-month illness.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, November 7, 2008 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, November 6, 2008 with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Gerald Feierfeil officiating, at the funeral home. Arthur was born Jan. 28, 1934, in Wakonda, S.D., the son of Jacob and Mabel (Hall) Erickson. He attended Wakonda Public Schools.
He was married to Denelda Juergens on June 28, 1955, at Sacred heart Catholic Church in Yankton, S.D. He was a carpenter for Local 948, where he recently received his 50-years membership pin.
He enjoyed camping, fishing, woodworking, gardening, the outdoors and spending time with his grandchildren. He was of the Catholic faith.
Survivors include his wife, Denelda Erickson of Sioux City; eight children, Kenneth (Susan) Erickson of Hinton, Iowa, Daniel (Kathy) Erickson of Sergeant Bluff, Joan (Jim) Hollins of Sioux City, Randall (Carla) Erickson of Sioux City, Patricia (Gary) Barkley of Parkville, Mo., Kathleen Nissen of Sergeant Bluff, Robert (Kristine) Erickson of Sergeant Bluff and Thomas (Misty) Erickson of Sioux City; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary (Orlin) Wenzloff of Sioux Falls, S.D.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Martin; and a sister, Helen Milbrodt.
