Ruth Elsberg

June 5, 1919 — November 26, 2006

Ruth Elsberg, 87, of Denver, Colorado, formerly of Sioux City, died Sunday. November 26, 2006 at Hospice of Metro Denver from complications following a stroke. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday November 29, 2006 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, 3200 Stone Park Blvd. in Sioux City, with Frank Baron officiating. Burial will be at the Independent Farane.

Ruth (Rosenberg) Elsberg was born June 5, 1919 in Portland, Oregon, the daughter of Ben and Lily (Baum) Rosenberg. She graduated from Garfield High School in Seattle, Washington and attended the University of Washington. She proudly joined the Womens Army Corp. during WWII. She was united in marriage to Hymie Elsberg on April 18, 1948 and made their home in Sioux City for the next 54 years. Ruth was a member of the Congregation of Beth Shalom. Some of the many groups Ruth was active in over the years included The League of Women Voters, PTA, including being citywide president, helping organize the purchase of the first city bookmobile, Hadassah Womens Group and supporting many democratic elections at both the state and national level. And school bond elections. Following her battle with colon cancer, she organized a wig program at St. Lukes Hospital and the Siouxland Cancer Center for almost 20 years, where she was affectionately known as the wig lady. She served many women struggling with the aftermath of radiation and chemotherapy. After Hymie passed away in 2002, she moved to Denver, Colorado to be near her children and grandchildren. While in Denver, she lived at the Heritage Club Retirement Home. She always lived life to the fullest with lots of laughter and compassion for others. Helping others and being of service was one of her greatest joys.

Survivors include a son, Lee of Longmont, CO: a daughter, Jeri, of Denver, CO: And a son and his wife, Ben and Lois of Denver, CO: Grandchildren are Sarah, Alex and Paul Elsberg.
