Robert W. Ellis, 86, passed away at home in Sioux City on July 18 following a long illness.
Born in Sioux City on January 30, 1921 to Dr. Percy and Mrs. Marguerite Ellis of Merrill, he graduated from Merrill High School in 1938. After serving for more than three years in the Navy during WWII, he returned to Sioux City, working in real estate and retail sales until his retirement in 1989. Mr. Ellis was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Landmark Lodge for more than 50 years. He was a charter member of the Co-Operative Club (now Sertoma), serving as a local president and later as an international director of that organization.
Mr. Ellis is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jean Carlton Ellis; a son, Dr. Mark Ellis and wife, Pamela, of Lexington, Ohio; a daughter, Marcia Ellis Miller and husband Darrell, of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Dana Ellis Cummings, of Eldora, Miles Ellis, of Brooklyn, New York, Erin Miller Burton, of Des Moines, and Lauren Miller McMullen, of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 4, at the Mayflower Congregational Church with the Reverend Dan Lozer officiating. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the church from 10:00 until the time of the service.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Sioux City, or to the memorial fund of the Mayflower Congregational Church.
