Ruth F. Eldredge, 82, of Sioux City died peacefully at her residence Sunday, Oct. 7, 2007.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Martha Anderson of Trimble United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Lohrville, Iowa. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Mrs. Eldredge was born April 24, 1925, in Pocahontas, Iowa, the daughter of L. Lowell and Stella R. (Rumper) Fowler.
She married Robert Eldredge and they had three children, Mark, Kent and Susan. She worked for the Sioux City School board for 30 years. After she retired, she moved to Mission, Texas, with her longtime companion, Don O'Neil. She returned to Sioux City in 2006.
She was a breast cancer survivor. She enjoyed reading, painting, playing bridge, spending time with her family and watching her grandchildren grow. She was an Iowa Hawkeyes basketball fan. She was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include three children, Mark Eldredge, Kent Eldredge and his wife, Cathy, and Susan and her husband, Gary Roberts, all of Sioux City; a brother and his wife, James and Jo Ann Flower of McCook Lake, S.D.; six grandchildren, Kevin, Kyle, Amy, Bobby, Jeremy and Danica; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Wendel; and her long time companion, Don O'Neil.
Pallbearers will be Kevin, Kyle, Gary and Susan Roberts, Shane and Amy Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark and Kent Eldredge.
