Doris L. Dyer, 90, of Sioux City died Thursday, June 26, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2008 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Doris was born Dec. 22, 1917, in Sioux City, the daughter of Earl and Abegale (Hayden) Rhoads. She grew up in Sioux City and attended Central High School. She was a lifelong Sioux City resident.
She married Robert J. Dyer on Nov. 20, 1941, in Sioux City. He died Sept. 15, 1998 in Sioux City. She worked at Wincharger and Younker-Davidson Department Store, retiring in 1979.
She had been a member of Riverside United Methodist Church and the Moose Lodge. She enjoyed her cats, watching soap operas, gardening, fishing, going to rummage sales and spending time with her grandchildren, some of whom she helped raise.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Doreen and Michael Keagle of Sioux City; three sons, Jim Dyer and his wife, Cathy of Sioux Falls, S.D., Dennis Dyer of Sioux City and Darrell Dyer and his wife, Cheryl of Orange Park, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Kimberly Means, Matthew Keagle, Jim Dyer Jr., Eric Dyer, Crystal Dyer, Nathan Dyer and Amanda Dyer; and two great-grandchildren, Cody Means and Isabella Dyer.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Thelma Hoffman, Elma Robertson and Betty Pittman; and a brother, William "Bill" Gasser.
Pallbearers will be Rick Hanson, Brad Undine, Ron Undine, Bill Twohig, Rod Kelling and Shane Means.
