Mary M. Dowlin, 90, of Sioux City, passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at her home. Abiding by her wishes, graveside services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at Calvary Cemetery with Monsignor Roger Augustine officiating. There will be no visitation. Mary was born on December 14, 1918 in Sioux City to J.R. and Sadie (Gibbons) Walker. She grew up in Sioux City where she attended Central High School and graduated in 1937. Mary then attended Morningside College for 2 years. She married George W. Dowlin on August 4, 1941 in Sioux City. Mary worked at Trinity College Library and then the Sioux City Public Library before going to Florida with George during World War II. While in Florida, Mary worked in the Army Air Corps Library. After George was discharged, the couple returned to Sioux City until 1949. The couple lived in various places in the eastern United States and traveled to several foreign countries. George and Mary returned to Sioux City again in the early 1990s. She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and more recently Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Mary is survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by her husband George on April 15, 2009 and her parents. Memorials in her name may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland.
