SIOUX CITY -- Minh Doan, 71, of Sioux City passed away Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, at his residence, comforted by family.
A Buddhist funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel, with a ceremonial cremation to follow. Visitation, with the family present, will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home.
Minh was born July 27, 1938, in Vietnam, to Tuc Van Doan and Thoi Thi Tran. He received the equivalent of a doctorate degree in Vietnam before working as a government official, ranking below that of a mayor prior to 1975. Minh moved to the United States in 1993 and settled in Sioux City in 1995. Locally, Minh was a laborer at Interbake Foods, L.L.C. until his retirement.
He enjoyed reading newspapers and books and watching television. Minh was active in the area with the Vietnamese community, holding the office of president of the Vietnamese Association of Siouxland and was an adviser for the Buddhist Temple.
Minh is survived by his wife, Muon Nguyen of Sioux City; daughter, Nga Doan of Sioux City, and three other daughters; son, Tam Doan of Sioux City, and five other sons; one sister in Australia; and 16 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother of California.
