HAWARDEN, Iowa -- Carol S. Dew, 82, of Hawarden died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011, at Hillcrest Care Center in Hawarden following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, March 4, 2011 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City, with the Rev. Roger Linnan officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Merrill, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Carol was born Nov. 8, 1928, in Sioux City. She grew up in Sioux City and attended Sioux City schools.

Carol married Vernon S. Dew Sr. in Elk Point, S.D. He died March 8, 1982, in Sioux City. After her marriage, Carol lived in Merrill. She and Vernon owned and operated Livestock Equipment Inc. in Merrill. She moved to Rapid City, S.D., and worked at the Green Thumb and Family Thrift Grocery Store. She then moved to Denver, Colo., and later to Seattle, Wash., before moving to Hawarden in 2005.

Carol enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking, fishing, crafting and traveling. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include six children, Susan Burns of Commerce City, Colo., Stephanie Cook and her husband, Keith of Covington, Wash., Vernon Dew Jr. and his wife, Laura of Kansas City, Mo., Deborah Frisk and her husband, Douglas of Rapid City, S.D., Roger A. Dew of Oak Grove, Mo., and Colleen Maher and her husband, Ryan of Hawarden; a sister, Jozina Turkelson of Sparks, Nev.; 14 grandchildren, Wendy, Matt, Michael, Jeremy, Jacob, Bryan, Whitney, Heather, David, Jennifer, Cody, Reyna, Scott and Genna; and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Madeline Krommenhoek; a daughter, Wendy; a son, Bruce; a son-in-law, William Gonzales; and twin grandchildren, Keith and Rachel Cook.

Pallbearers will be Rodger Dew, Douglas Frisk, Ryan Maher, Matthew Burns, Bryan Dew and Keith Cook.
