Peter J. DeVries

Peter J. DeVries, 79, of Sioux City, passed away on Monday, September 4, 2006 in Sioux City. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 9, 2006 at the Central Reformed Church in Sioux Center with Pastor R. (Van) Rathbun officiating.

Peter was born on August 20, 1927 in Sioux Center, Iowa to Peter E. and Minnie (Kleinwolterink) DeVries. He grew up and attended school in Sioux Center and then attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln until he enlisted in the U.S. Army after W.W.II. On May 28, 1950, he married Elaine Maston in South Sioux City, NE. Peter worked in road construction for most of his life. The last of his career years he was a superintendent for the Woodbury County Road Department. Peter enjoyed many in things life such as reading about politics and watching the different types of birds in Siouxland. He also enjoyed hunting in his younger years and later just target shooting and reloading old shells. Peter was a lifetime member of the NRA.

Peter is survived by three children: Greg DeVries and wife Susan of St. Louis, MO: Jeff DeVries of Seattle, WA: and Melora Pruneau and husband Mark of St. Louis, MO: 5 grandchildren; Chris DeVries, J.J. DeVries, John Pruneau, Michael Pruneau, Eleanor Pruneau, 2 great-grandchildren: Avery and Sam Merrick.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Elaine in 1981, 11 brothers and sisters; Johanna DeBeer, Arta Huisman, Dena Jonkers, Bert DeVries, John DeVries, Herman DeVries, Hattie DeGroot, Clarine Westra, Winifred Van Muyden, and Myna Fallow.
