Mary C. Davis-Rupp, 84, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, Sept. 14, 2006, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Morningside Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Tom LoVan officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mary was born Aug. 23, 1922, in Parsons, W.V., the daughter of Delbert and Mabel (Kelly) Shoemaker. She graduated from Parsons High School.
She married Floyd G. "Stinky" Davis on Aug. 19, 1944, in Nitro, W.V. Following Floyd's discharge from the U.S. Army, the couple moved to Elk Point, S.D. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Sioux City. For several years, she was employed at Cudahay's. Next, she owned and operated a restaurant in Sioux City for several years. Later, she attended cosmetology school and became a beautician. She worked at Rose Marie's Beauty Salon for a few years, eventually purchasing the business. She continued to own and operate the salon for the next 35 years. Floyd preceded her in death on Oct. 7, 1999, in Sioux City.
She married Floyd C. Rupp on March 4, 2003, in Sioux City.
She was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church for more than 50 years. She was an avid ballroom dancer. She also was an excellent cook and a very loving wife.
Survivors include her husband, Floyd; a son and his wife, Floyd C. "Chet" and Linda Davis of Kingsley, Iowa; a stepdaughter and her husband, Charlotte and Chuck Clark of Le Mars, Iowa; two stepsons, Gary Rupp and his wife, Karen of Marcus, Iowa, and Randy Rupp and his fiancee, Becki Swinehart of Parker, Colo.; her twin sister, Bertha Friend and her special friend, Ray Sturgis of Roseville, Calif.; a brother and his wife, George and Mary Shoemaker of Stephen City, Va.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four sisters.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Heath Davis, Joe Phelan, Mike Vos, Cole Harvey, Justin Clark and Andy Rupp.
