SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- Elaine Davis, 84, of South Sioux City died Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at Regency Care Center following a brief illness.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave., with the Rev. Nancy Leonard officiating. Graveside services will be 3:45 p.m. Friday in O'Neill (Neb.) City Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Elaine was born Feb. 28, 1926, in Page, Neb., the daughter of Leslie and Ethel (Goree) Summers. She attended school in Page.
She married Lyle H. Davis on March 4, 1946, in O'Neill, Neb. He died July 31, 1974, in Omaha, Neb. They began their life on their farm in Page. To this union, seven children were born. In 1956, they moved to Norfolk, Neb., and then to South Sioux City in 1965. Elaine worked in the food service department at Morningside College. She also worked at the Paddock Steak House. She retired in 1996.
She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in South Sioux City and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in South Sioux City. Elaine enjoyed Nebraska football and going to the beauty salon weekly. Her favorite things were cooking for her many friends and family gatherings and decorating for every holiday. Her most favorite time was Christmas. She always had a Christmas Eve gathering for all family members, complete with a large tree, food and sweets that she made and presents for all.
Survivors include five children, Phyllis Arsenault and her husband, Dennis of South Sioux City, Mike Davis and his wife, Susan of Henderson, Nev., Lois Boyd and her husband, Alan of Dakota City, Bruce Davis and his wife, Bridget of South Sioux City, and Joan Gagnon of Sioux City; a sister, Connie Collins of Utah; three brothers, Jerry Summers and his wife, Judy of Page, Neb., Ronnie Summers and his wife, Shirley of Madison, Neb., and Larry Summers and his wife, Charlene of O'Neill, Neb.; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Summers of O'Neill, Neb., and Bernice Summers of South Sioux City; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lyle; sons, Richard and Gary; Lyle's parents; a son-in-law, Harold Gagnon; brothers, Bob, Duane and Don Summers; and her pets, Angel and Socks.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Brian Marshall, Chris and Rick Davis, Dusty Boyd, Adam and Nick Davis.
