Dale Roy Dailey, 48, of Sioux City passed away Friday, March 23, 2007, at his residence, surrounded by his family, following a brief bout with cancer.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Merrill Muller of Wesley United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Navy Reserve. Dale was born Sept. 24, 1958, in San Leandro, Calif. to Beverly Dailey. At the age of 17, he enlisted into the U.S. Navy, serving from 1975 to 1979. He served on both the USS Franklin Delano Roosevelt and USS Saratoga. While serving in the military, Dale was a baker and mess manager.
He married Ramona Orr in 1980. The couple resided in Jacksonville, Fla. and were blessed with three children. While living there, Dale enjoyed entering the King Fish Tournament for four years, winning several trophies and receiving recognition for his accomplishments for trophy fishing.
He and his children moved to Sioux City in 1991. Dale met Arlene (Wright) Dungan in 1993, and the couple were later married.
Dale belonged to the National H.O.G. Chapter of Milwaukee and was an abate member of District 20 in Sioux City. He loved gardening and took great pride in raising his many variety of flowers. He was known to even talk to his flowers while they were growing. Dale had an open door policy; everyone was welcome. "The grill is on and the Busch Light is cold." Dale was always ready to jump on his Harley for a short or iron butt ride. He and Arlene enjoyed going to Sturgis, Daytona and any other bike rally they could get away with.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene; three children, Heather Dailey of Jacksonville, Fla., Brandie Daley and Dale Dailey II, both of Sioux City; his mother, Beverly Monk of Sioux City; two brothers, Gary Dailey of Sioux City and Arnie Dailey of Jacksonville, Fla.; two grandchildren, Tyler and Dakota "Kody" Madias of Jacksonville; four stepchildren, Joe and Heather Dungan and Jamie and Beth Dungan, all of Roy, Wash., Jay Dungan of Aurelia, Iowa and Jill and Jason Black of Ft. Dodge, Iowa; seven stepgrandchildren, Clint, Kyle Ann, Mathew, Peyton, Tyler, Savannah and Chase; a niece, Jessica; a nephew, Austin; and numerous other relatives and friends. Dale is also survived by his pets, Coco, Missy and Earl.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Wanda and Roy Carlson; and stepfather, Marvin Monk.
Pallbearers will be Gary Dailey, Jay Dungan, Rick Bradbury, Ed Blake, Kelly Peterson and Jeff Carda. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Holsinger, Moses Green, Barry Fiscus, Randy Watterson and Jerry Myers.
