Wava R. Curry, 95, of Sioux City, formerly of Ponca, NE, passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2008 in Sioux City. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 22, 2008 from 4-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at St. John Lutheran Church with Reverend Greg Hanneman officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Park Cemetery.
Wava was born on June 2, 1913 in Ponca, Nebraska to George W. and Mabel (Patterson) Curry. She was raised in the Ponca area and attended school in Newcastle.
On January 1, 1935, she married Lee Curry in Yankton, SD. She was a home maker until her children were raised. Wava then began working at Palmer Candy Company for 7 years before she retired.
After their retirement, the couple enjoyed traveling around the world, like to Spain and taking cruises. She also enjoyed gardening, knitting and watching her grandchildren. She was a long time member of St. John Lutheran Church where she was active in the Welca Circle and other church activities.
Wava is survived by her 4 children, W. Roger Curry and wife Betty of Saratoga, CA, Dave Curry and wife Shari of Rosarito Beach, MX, Tom Curry and wife Vickie of Fairbury, NE, and Sharyn Volk and husband Rich of Sioux City, IA, 9 grandchildren and 11 great, grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lee on May 31, 1997 in Sioux City, 3 brothers and 5 sisters.
