Robert A. Crane

Robert A. Crane, 78, of Sioux City passed away Monday, June 23, 2008, at his residence.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. Jim Bruch officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Robert was born May 19, 1930, in Sioux City, the son of Harry and Margaret (Martin) Crane. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a member of the crew aboard the U.S.S. Moale from 1947 to 1950.

He married Shirley Miller on Sept. 6, 1952, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sioux City. He worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad for 10 years. He then began a career with the U.S. Postal Service which lasted for 33 years.

He was a member of the American Legion Monahan Post 64 and a past member of the Sioux City Elks. He enjoyed playing cards and was a member of the Sioux City Cribbage League.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Sioux City; a daughter, Michele Kuhlmann and fiance, Tim Sachtjen of Sioux City; sons and their wives, Jeffrey and Ann Crane of Republic, Mo., and Scott and Jessica Crane of Rochester, Minn.; a sister, Donna Baird and fiance, Al Thurow of Sergeant Bluff; a brother and his wife, Leo and Shirley Camerer of Hinton, Iowa; eight grandchildren including a special granddaughter and her husband, Tiffany and Aaron Bonnes; 13 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; a special friend from the Navy, Robert Schwartz; and a special dog, Susie.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Brian Crane; seven sisters; and two brothers.
