SIOUX CITY -- Richard E. "Dick" Corwin, 91, of Sioux Falls, S.D., formerly of Route 1, Sioux City, passed away Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010, at the V.A. hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Hinton United Methodist Church in Hinton, Iowa. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City.
Dick was born July 18, 1918, in Rock Valley, Iowa, the son of Frelon and Hattie (Elliot) Corwin. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army. Dick was stationed in England as an anti-aircraft machine gun instructor and in France with a headquarters group.
He married Betty Ellison on April 12, 1941, in Hinton, Iowa. Dick farmed until going to work as a civil engineer for the city of Sioux City. He retired in 1980. Dick enjoyed golfing, fishing and yardwork.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Corwin of Sioux Falls; a son, Doug and wife, Nancy Corwin of Beresford, S.D.; a daughter, Yvonne and husband, Steve Mossberg of Sioux Falls; four grandchildren, Brian Corwin, Chris and wife, Sandi Corwin, Matt Mossberg and Sarah (Mossberg) and husband, Damion Wright; four great-grandchildren, Joseph, Benjamin, Logan and Ireland; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Francis Corwin.
Pallbearers will be Brian Corwin, Chris Corwin, Matt Mossberg, Damion Wright, George Ellison and Todd Ellison.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the V.A. Hospital in Sioux Falls, and the Memory Unit of Dow Rummel Village in Sioux Falls.
