Cecelia Frances Listing "Cec" Corbett, 95, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006, at her residence in Bickford Cottage.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Roger Madden officiating. A private visitation will be held for the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mrs. Corbett was born Sept. 5, 1911, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Charles and Helen Pauline (Gurski) Listing. Her family lived in various locations, eventually settling in Western Springs, Ill. She graduated from LaGrange High School in 1929. She received both her bachelor of arts and J.D. degrees from the University of Chicago. She was one of the first female graduates of its law school, graduating cum laude in 1935. She practiced as an attorney with a downtown Chicago law firm.

She married Stanley M. Corbett on Nov. 16, 1935, in Western Springs, Ill. and moved to Sioux City.

The couple traveled extensively all over the world, setting foot on every continent. They were devoted parents and grandparents, attending all of the athletic and musical events involving their local grandsons and even many of the ballet performances of the granddaughter in Denver, Colo.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, travel, stained glass art and was an active participant in the education of her children and grandchildren.

She was also active in numerous community organizations including the Boys and Girls Home, where she served as treasurer for years, the Florence Crittenton Home, Junior League, P.E.O. Chapter DH, AAUW, League of Women Voters, AID Center, Planned Parenthood and Fortnightly Club. She was a Cub Scout den mother and a Brownie Troop leader. She received many honors and awards including Boys and Girls Home Volunteer of the Year, the Marci Dowd Award from the AID Center, the Sioux City Education Association Layman's Award and the J.C. Penney Golden Rule Award.

She is survived by her children, Chuck Corbett of Sioux City and PaT and her husband, Steve Adams of Denver, Colo.; and four grandchildren, Shane Corbett of Tucson, Ariz., Chad Corbett of Grand Forks, N.D., Charlotte Adams and Brian Adams, both of Denver.

She was preceded in death by her beloved Stan on Jan. 13, 2004; her parents; and a sister, Marjorie Rugg.

Memorials have been established with the Boys and Girls Home, Hospice of Siouxland and the Planned Parenthood Foundation.
