Paul D. Cook, 87, of Sioux City died Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab Center.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 19, 2008 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Merrill Muller officiating. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Rosehill Cemetery, Maysville, Okla. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Paul D. Cook was born Sept. 23, 1920, in Maysville, Okla., the son of Euin and Kitty (Yarbrough) Cook. He graduated from Tulia, Texas High School in 1940. He lettered in four different sports for four years. He attended Baylor University of two years, where he played football.
He married Helen Weaver on Nov. 10, 1945, in Corpus Christi, Texas. He joined the U.S. Navy and became a Naval pilot. He served in World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He retired from the Sioux City Air Guard in 1972 after 29 years of service. He also was a building contractor in Sioux City.
He enjoyed golfing.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Helen Cook of Sioux City; three children, Paul Eugene "Gene" Cook and Chris of Sioux City, Betsey Cook Voss and her husband, Jack Voss of Lyons, Neb., and Steve Cook of Sioux City; a grandson, J.D. Cook of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Turla Weaver of Sioux City; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother; a sister; and a granddaughter, Susan Cook.
