Jerry W. Conover, 69, of Sioux City passed away unexpectedly Saturday, March 10, 2007, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
Jerry was born Nov. 13, 1937, in Sioux City, to Melvin and Mary Fern (McConville) Conover. He attended East High School. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1954.
He married Betty L. Gruis on Feb. 19, 1955. During his military days, he was stationed in various locations around the world. He was employed with MidAmerican Energy until his retirement in 2002.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and competing in black powder shoots of which he won several first place awards. He loved people and enjoyed his daily visits with friends. He will be fondly remembered for his quick wit and his ability to deliver the punch line on every joke. He always kept his friends and family laughing.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; their four children and their spouses, Thomas and Jocelyn of Le Mars, Iowa, Teryl and Philip Ahlers of Remsen, Iowa, Charles and Terri of Remsen, Iowa, and Christopher and Dawn of South Sioux City; his grandchildren, Jerry Conover II, Brodie, Britton and Gracie Conover, Derek Ahlers, Elliott, Christian, Ana Marie and Isaac Conover; and three sisters, Connie and her husband, Floyd Arndt of St. Paul, Minn., Joyce Davis of Hurst, Texas, and Gail and her husband, Loren Howard of Carrollton, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Mary Fern Conover; and his in-laws, Bert and Dorothy Gruis.
Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Carter, Tom Graham, Mark Dreesen, Doug Olson, Steve Kovarna, Larry Kovarna, Neal Asmussen, Dave Condon, Gary Gruis and Randy Martin.
