NORTH SIOUX CITY -- Norman J. "Stub" Collins, 76, of North Sioux City died Monday, July 28, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 1, 2008 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Craig Collison officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7690 of North Sioux City. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with a rosary at 4:30 p.m. conducted by the Knights of Columbus, the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Norman J. "Stub" Collins was born Dec. 31, 1931, in Mapleton, Iowa, the son of Lewis and Olive (Mohrhauser) Collins. He graduated from Oto (Iowa) High School in 1950 and attended one year of college at Wayne State. He served in the U.S. Army from January 1950 to January 1953 during the Korean conflict.

He married Ethel M. Dries on June 19, 1954, in Sioux City. He was employed as a mechanic and parts man for Midwest Energy for 27 years, retiring in 1995. He was currently employed as a manager of the New Horizon Apartments in North Sioux City for the past 10 years.

In his free time he loved fishing, golfing, watching sports, square dancing, playing cards and was an avid fan of Bishop Heelan sports.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the North Sioux City Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7690 and American Legion Post 319. He served as a councilman and on the North Sioux City Planning and Zoning Board along with many boards and committees to rise funds for many reasons.

Survivors include his wife, Ethel; four sons, Michael and Kim Collins of Denver, Colo., Patrick and Sue of Glenwood, Iowa, Jerry and Lisa of Sioux City and Doug and Monica of Phoenix, Ariz.; four daughters, Mary Jo and Rodney Winchester of Sheldon, Iowa, Judy and Tim Donovan of Sioux Falls, S.D., Linda Guy of Sioux City and Barbara and Billy Shortal of Orlando, Fla.; grandchildren, Dan and Nick Collins, Eric and Michaela Collins, Lucy, Ryan and Leah Collins, Lisa and Mike Letcher, Laura and Kevin King, Jessica and Kelly Collins, Brad and J.T. Donovan, Justin and Tyler Guy, Anthony and Marissa Clutter and Samantha and William Shortal; 3 great grandchildren; two brothers, Maurice "Pete" and Vera Collins of Anthon, Iowa, and William and Delores Collins of Kingsley, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Sharon Collins of Sioux City; two sisters, Marcine "Rusty" and Joe Guenther of South Sioux City and Mary Ann "Toots" and Ron Ashby of Little Falls, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Donald and Phillip "Dutch" Collins.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to Bishop Heelan Building Fund.
