Irene Collins, 94, of Sioux City died Friday, Sept. 14, 2007, at a Sioux City nursing home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Michael Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gary Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., with a 4 p.m. rosary service by Catholic Daughters of America and a 7 p.m. vigil service, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Irene was born April 27, 1913, in Danbury, Iowa, to Frank and Margaret (Fitzpatrick) Collins. She graduated from Danbury Catholic School and went on to graduate from Ottumwa Heights College in Ottumwa, Iowa. Irene was a bookkeeper and credit manager for 38 years with Kaplan Company Wholesale Grocery, retiring at age 65.
She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters of America since 1943. Irene was a big Hawkeye fan. She enjoyed needlepoint and was extremely proud of her Irish heritage.
Survivors include a sister, Patricia Brenner of Rantoul, Ill.; a nephew and nieces, Cande (Russ) Cerniglia, Margaret (Wendell) Brockman, Lisa Collins and husband, Clayton Clubine, Lona Collins, Ronald (Diane) Collins and Jacquline Collins; a special nephew, Bob (Cindy) Collins; as well as many other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John and Ralph Collins; and two sisters, Catherine Baagoe and Helene Peter.
