SIOUX CITY -- Joyce E. Closson, 79, of Sioux City passed away on Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010, at Hallmark Care Center, comforted by family.
Visitation with family present will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Abiding by family wishes, cremation will then take place. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, at New Hope Wesleyan Church, with Dr. Robert Jewett officiating. A private burial will be at Graceland Park Cemetery in Sioux City.
Joyce was born on March 5, 1931, in Winchington, Mass., to Walter L. and Elizabeth (Bailey) Jewett. She graduated from Sidney High School in Sidney, Neb., with the Class of 1949.
Joyce married John Robert Clancy in Nebraska in 1951 to which five children were born. The couple later divorced, and Joyce relocated to Sioux City in 1969. She joined the crew at Pride Professional Cleaning, where she worked until 1996. Joyce married Murl Closson in March of 1971 in Sioux City.
She enjoyed playing the piano, the organ and singing. Joyce was always happy, could always be caught with a smile on her face and was very outgoing and kind. She was as member of Whitfield Methodist Church and a past member of Grace United Methodist Church.
Joyce is survived by her children, Stephen Clancy, Robert "Scott" Clancy and his wife, Jean, Elizabeth "Betsy" Dewey, all of Sioux City, and Karen Clancy of California; stepson, Earl Closson; brothers, Dr. Robert Jewett of Germany and Dr. Paul Jewett of Florida; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and long-time special friend, Orville DeJong of Sioux City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Murl; son, Shawn Clancy in October of 2009; and sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Ells.
