Robert Kenneth Clark, 87, of Sioux City died Thursday, March 20, 2008, at his residence following a lengthy illness.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Matthew Miller and Hospice Chaplain Mike Inman officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Robert Clark was born March 29, 1920, in Sioux City, to Harry O. and Rena (Cork) Clark and was baptized a Presbyterian. He attended Sioux City schools and graduated from East High School in 1938. He lived in Sioux City most of his life.
He married Judith Baker on Sept. 10, 1974, in Las Vegas, Nev. Mr. Clark retired Dec. 1, 1988, as general manager of the Sioux City area for the Mutual of Omaha Companies. He had been associated with the firm for 33 years. During his career, he received numerous company honors which included nine President's Circle Awards, the highest distinction given by top production in consecutive years. After retiring from Mutual of Omaha, he had his own agency, Clark Insurance Agency, until his death.
As a youth, he played baseball for Dr. Pepper. Their team was the first one to win and go to state. He was an avid bowler and golfer and had a hole-in-one in 1974. He loved to cheer the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs. He also enjoyed attending his grandchildren's activities.
Survivors include his wife, Judie; two sons, Robert C. and wife, Dawn Clark of Coon Rapids, Minn., and William and wife, Barbara Clark of Perry, Iowa; five daughters, Cyndy Hall, Connie and husband, James Noreen, all of Sioux City, Traci and husband, Phil Bedinger of Sioux Falls, Diane and husband, Charles Shanafelt of Sioux City, and Donna and husband, Brad Stolze of Sergeant Bluff; 26 grandchildren, Scott and wife, Lynn Clark of Andover, Minn., Rene (Clark) and husband, Ross Mortensen of Cambridge, Minn., Greg Clark and fiancee, Maureen Potratz of Buffalo, Minn., Jana (Clark) and husband, Dan Block of Elk River, Minn., Jeremy and wife, Kristalee Clark of Surprise, Ariz., Matthew and wife, Carey Clark of Ankeny, Iowa, James and wife, Megan Clark of West Reading, Pa., Sarah (Clark) and husband, Steve Snavely of Waynesboro, Va., Robert Hall of Sioux Falls, Cylass Hall and partner, Tom of Sioux City, Tony Noreen of Sioux City, Billi Jo and husband, Eric Ray of Des Moines, Staff Sgt.
Jesse Noreen of Glendale, Ariz., Ryan and wife, Aja Goff, Tyler and wife, Melissa Goff, Sayre and Bryce Bedinger, all of Sioux Falls, Paul Shanafelt of Minneapolis, Laura Shanafelt of Mankato, Minn., Chase and Anna Shanafelt, both of Sioux City, Scott Uran of Denver, Colo., Nicole Carson of Sergeant Bluff, Kyle Haines of Green Bay, Wis., Andrew Stolze of Wayne, Neb., and Abbie Stolze of Homer, Neb.; and 23 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lester; three sisters, Pearl Luebbing, Lila Berner and Inez Krommenhoek; and a granddaughter, Leah Diane Shanafelt.
Pallbearers will be James Noreen, Phil Bedinger, Charles Shanafelt, Brad Stolze, Rod Haines and Jason Link. Honorary pallbearers will be Louis Baum, John Shea, Terry Johnson and Brett Schwier.
Memorials may be directed in his name to Hospice of Siouxland.
