Orval J. Christensen

SIOUX CITY -- Orval J. Christensen, 80, of Sun City, Ariz., formerly of Sioux City, passed away Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at a Sun City hospital.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday, October 16, 2009 in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Orval was born June 4, 1929, in Hartington, Neb., the son of James C. and Sena M. (Miller) Christensen. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952.

He married Mary Lou Irwin on Sept. 12, 1953, in Sioux City. She preceded him in death on April 22, 1993, in Sioux City. He worked at Wonder Bread for 30 years. He also drove for City Transit for several years before retiring.

Survivors include his sister, Helen Kelly of Sioux City; a niece, Terry and her husband, Paul Brewer and their children, Jennifer, Paul J., Christopher and Angelea; and a cousin, Lawrence Dybdal and his wife, Marge of Laurel, Neb.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
