Bonnie L. Chicoine

May 13, 1929 — December 27, 2006

Bonnie Louise Chicoine, 77, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006, at Bickford Cottage.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Merlin Schrad officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation will resume 9 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Bonnie was born May 13, 1929, in Sioux City, to Albert and Minnie (Stevens) Sorensen. She grew up in Sioux City and attended Sioux City Schools. She graduated from East High School, where she was a drum majorette. She then attended N.B.T. and worked at Swift & Co. before her marriage to Dr. Gerald Chicoine on Oct. 7, 1950, in Sioux City. After their marriage, Bonnie worked for the Sioux City Board of Education. Dr. Chicoine died Aug. 20, 1998, in Sioux City.

Bonnie was proud to be the mother of 10 children. She was an avid golfer, having played in many inner-club tournaments as well as Pebble Beach. She worked at Seagull Sam's Gift Shop for 17 years and was a Mary Kay consultant. She was a member of the Red Hat Society.

She was a longtime member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Bonnie's happiest moments were the times spent with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include 10 children, Dr. Lin Chicoine Peterson and her husband, Jerry Peterson of Sioux City, Dr. Bradley Chicoine and his wife, Colleen of Sioux City, Dr. Jeffrey Chicoine of Greensboro, N.C., Dr. Jon Chicoine and his wife, Lee Ann of Austin, Texas, Susan Pohl and her husband, Curt of Ridgefield, Wash., Dr. Richard Chicoine and his wife, Janet of the Colony, Texas, Lisa Cano and her husband, Dr. Fernando Cano of Richardson, Texas, Dr. Jerry Chicoine and his wife, Annette of Tulsa, Okla., Dr. James Chicoine and his wife, Lisa of Austin, Texas, and Michele Chicoine of Sioux City; a brother, Edward Sorensen of Sioux City; a sister, Katherine Bussey of Clive, Iowa; 29 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Clarence "Flash" Sorensen; a sister, Dorothy; a stepbrother, Lawrence Gronberg; and a daughter-in-law, Karen Chicoine.

Pallbearers will be her six sons.
