Stacie R. (Rasmussen) Cherkas, 25, of Sioux City passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. James A. Bruch officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Stacie was born Dec. 5, 1980, in Sioux City, the daughter of Stephen A. and Susanne (O'Kane) Rasmussen. She graduated from West High School in 1998 and received her nursing degree from Western Iowa Tech Community College. She had been employed with Embassy Nursing and Rehab Center in Sergeant Bluff for several years. She was director of nursing at the time of her death.
She enjoyed volleyball, coaching both Epiphany Middle School and the Salvation Army at one time. She also enjoyed softball. She was a T-ball coach for her daughter, Raegan. She also was a Mary Kay consultant.
Survivors include her husband, Terry; two daughters, Raegan Pearl Bair, age 4, and Jersie Alyce Cherkas age 11 months, both at home; her father and stepmother, Steve and Elaine Rasmussen of Sioux City; her mother and stepfather, Susanne O'Kane and Jeff Prichard of La Vista, Neb.; a brother, Kyle Rasmussen of Sioux City; a sister and her husband, Courtney Jean and Jeremy Mayo of Sioux City; a niece, Brynn Mayo; a nephew, Collin Mayo; and her maternal grandfather, John R. Hendrix of Sioux City.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Pearl and Arnold Rasmussen; and her maternal grandmother, Alice "Susie" Hendrix.
Pallbearers will be Greg Walz, Kristen O'Kane, Jeremy Mayo, Jessica Theisen, Katie Bartelt, Britney Socknat, Matthew O'Kane and Daniel O'Kane.
