SIOUX CITY -- Harold "Babe" Chamberlain, 81, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at a local hospital.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, June 28, 2010 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Bruch officiating. Burial will be in Omaha Valley Cemetery at Homer, Neb. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to meyerbroschapels.com.
Harold was born the son of Harry and Ada (Londrosh) Chamberlain on Sept. 10, 1928, in Winnebago, Neb. He received his education in the Winnebago schools before serving his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Harold married Bernice Martineck in Sioux City, and the couple became lifelong Siouxland area residents. Harold worked for Burlington Northern Railroad, Fairmont Foods and Cloverleaf before working for the city of Sioux City for many years until his retirement.
He volunteered his time after retirement and up to his death to Hospice of Siouxland and the cancer center. Harold loved to fish and go on vacations. He enjoyed baseball and was a St. Louis Cardinals and Yankees fan.
Harold is survived by one son, Ron Chamberlain of Sioux City; two daughters, Diane Bobier of Des Moines, Iowa, and Pattie (John) Hauswald of Sergeant Bluff; two sisters, Ada (Don) Mahrt of Omaha, Neb., and Nettie Chamberlain of South Sioux City; and four grandchildren, Ben, Sage, Summer and Joseph.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bernice; five brothers, Donald, Harry, Luther, Ben and Alvin; three sisters, Dorothy, Mary and Leona; and one grandson, Chad.
